So it’s been a long time since I’ve blogged… my apologies… but it’s also been a long time since I’ve created something new with my soaps, maybe January? A lot of life got in the way of creativity… did I mention I’m a single mother with a four year old? Some days she can be a handful, other days, the outside world is the trouble & we are the only things that make sense & fun out of it…
But alas today’s post is about NEW creations. Today I made a foaming hand soap (for my daughter) ingredients: olive oil, castile soap, h20 a course, cedarwood essential oil, tea tree oil, orange essential oil, & clary sage essential oil.
But what to call it? It smells… earthy, LIGHT, kid-friendly, & clean (so you can smell their little hands to be sure they actually washed them instead of just running the water… my four year old is a tricky one.) So: blog-o-sphere I’m asking, what to call it? And should you think you can’t possibly guess without smelling it- well, order some- if on your order you pick a name & yours gets chosen I will refund your money directly to your account OR you can have a gift certificate to my etsy shop- customer’s choice.
Will post link to etsy & photos later- for now- tell me what you think!
THIS is why Daughter of the Moon answers to our customers. We protect them & disclose all of our ingredients & even why, specifically & scientifically we use them. Hopefully buyers will become more aware, ask more questions, & show theses companies & regulating agencies with your own buying power & voices that we need to b respected & protected as consumers & people.
Here is an excerpt taken from the United States FDA website (that which “governs” so to speak & regulates the cosmetic industry.
1. Hexachlorophene (21 CFR 250.250)
Because of its neurotoxic effect and ability to penetrate human skin, the use of hexachlorophene (HCP) as a cosmetic ingredient is restricted to use as a preservative where an alternative preservative has not been shown to be as effective. The HCP concentration of the cosmetic may not exceed 0.1%, and it may not be used in cosmetics which in normal use may be applied to mucous membranes.
2. Mercury Compounds (21 CFR 700.13)
The use of mercury compounds as cosmetic ingredients is limited to use as preservatives in eye area cosmetics at concentrations not exceeding 65 ppm (0.0065%) of mercury calculated as the metal (about 100 ppm or 0.01% of phenylmercuric acetate or nitrate) and provided no other effective and safe preservative is available for use.
Mercury compounds are readily absorbed through the skin on topical application and have the tendency to accumulate in the body. They may cause allergic reactions, skin irritation or neurotoxic manifestations.
…….So basically this means they know it’s harmful & readily absorbed through the skin, & yet it is still allowed to be sold so long as you tell them it was the only additive or preservative that worked for a recipe. I think that is unacceptable. If something is a neurotoxin, THAT is what makes THEIR recipe not work.
So we have decided to continue blogging on wordpress, mainly because I didn’t want to leave the database here. I think it’s so great to be able to scroll through topics and talk with other writers, moms, and business owners. I just wanted to say hello to all my followers & fellow bloggers out there. I’ve been busy on a new line of products & so haven’t written in awhile, but I’m back at the keyboard.

It’s still a bit naked, I’ll be adding articles & a fully functioning pay pal store soon enough.
All the best,
But the living poets express a feeling that is actually being made and torn out of us at the moment. One does not recognize it in the first place; often for some reason one fears it; one watches it with keenness and compares it jealously and suspiciously with the old feeling that one knew. –Virginia Wolf, A Room of One’s Own
I was leafing through this book again today & stumbled upon that wonderful description of modern poetry, still true today of course. In the passage itself she’s talking about a comparison of greatness between modern poets the old greats like Tennyson & Christina Rossetti. But she takes this new argument as to why the classics were abd are more revered, it’s not about the culture as I’d think, as most would. It’s about the feeling. The old greats write of the classic emotions in a classic way, it’s comfortable. It’s evocative, yes, it’s wrenching, yes, and it makes you feel. But it makes you feel what you like, what you already know. Modern poetry is written to dissolve that. As a poet myself I can say my goal when I conider or edit a poem is to say how I feel and say it in a new way.
I strive to write to be a catalyst to a new faction of emotion, to push thought to a new border of the mind. I’m grateful for the greats who taught us how to do it right, but now I’ll write my way, because you have to learn the rules to break them right?
I look forward to sharing some poetry with you as I continue working on a line of cards inscribed with short poems & art. Cards will be available free with purchase of any Daughter of the Moon product you deem a ‘gift’ for someone. Cards will also be sold separately in complete packs for those interested in a set. I’ll be posting pictures in the coming weeks so check back soon!
Within this new line of Aromatherapy Perfumes & Colognes I am pleased to have perfected a few recipes. I continue to try new combinations, as I love listening to the ingredients, being led by them, & having those choices supported by my knowledge of the oils’ chemical compositions & their value in Aromatherapy & Energy & Vibration Healing.
I particularly enjoy crafting fragrances for custom orders because when I create the oil I can see the customer. I see their problems, their desires, their preferences, & so design an oil blend which I know will help that particular person, which will cater to them personally & emphasize their individuality. Because I enjoy it so much I offer custom-designed products for NO extra cost.
You can check out a list of Daughter of the Moon Aromatherapy Perfumes & Colognes on the Products Page, Click HERE & you will be linked there directly. Daughter of the Moon’s ‘Last Kiss’ Aromatherapy blend makes a wonderful Perfume or Cologne. Warm & subtly masculine, this is the perfect cold weather scent that both men & women will enjoy. This is a romantic, full-bodied scent with stand-out notes of Peru Balsam & is filled out by the faint dissonance of Vanilla & Rosemary.
Peru Balsam effects our emotions physically through Energy & Vibration Healing & Aromatherapy reactions. It facilitates love & acceptance of our physical bodies & our sexuality. We experience feelings of warmth, tenderness, & sensitivity towards ourselves & others. Opening ourselves spiritually, we feel safe & present in our world. This recipe is also excellent for skin protection & strengthening as Balsam conditions & soothes rough, cracked skin.
Into this expertly balanced recipe I also blended in Organic Rosemary, concentrating this recipe with antioxidant power. Rosemary is also helpful spiritually & mentally refreshes, useful to clear the mind of mental fatigue & to clarify our memory.
