Creations & Blogging

So it’s been a long time since I’ve blogged… my apologies… but it’s also been a long time since I’ve created something new with my soaps, maybe January? A lot of life got in the way of creativity… did I mention I’m a single mother with a four year old? Some days she can be a handful, other days, the outside world is the trouble & we are the only things that make sense & fun out of it…

But alas today’s post is about NEW creations. Today I made a foaming hand soap (for my daughter) ingredients: olive oil, castile soap, h20 a course, cedarwood essential oil, tea tree oil, orange essential oil, & clary sage essential oil.

But what to call it? It smells… earthy, LIGHT, kid-friendly, & clean (so you can smell their little hands to be sure they actually washed them instead of just running the water… my four year old is a tricky one.) So: blog-o-sphere I’m asking, what to call it? And should you think you can’t possibly guess without smelling it- well, order some- if on your order you pick a name & yours gets chosen I will refund your money directly to your account OR you can have a gift certificate to my etsy shop- customer’s choice.

Will post link to etsy & photos later- for now- tell me what you think!

Tandem Breastfeeding on Television: Phil & Lil breastfeeding on the show “Rugrats”

Today my daughter was watching an old episode of The Rugrats, and I noticed that Phil & Lil, as they reminisced about their first laugh together, brought the scene up of them breastfeeding together. I was surprised & happy to see such a normal representation of breastfeeding on television (granted this aired, what, 10? 15 years ago originally?) I suppose times have changed, but not too much. Still, Tommy’s mom (the ‘normal’ mom) bottle-fed while Phil & Lil’s mom Betty (the ‘radical feminist’ who’s token outfit sports the female symbol on her chest) is the one breastfeeding. But you know what? I’ll take it. =) I love that my daughter can watch mainstream television & feel normal because she too was breastfed just like them.

Honey for you skin

Image

Some facts you probably didn’t know about honey…………

Honey contains nutraceuticals (powerful antioxidants) which are effective in removing free radicals from our body. Making it great for rejuvenating aging skin as well as skin that has been dulled by over exposure to sunlight.

Honey heals your skin. It possesses antimicrobial, antibacterial, & antifungal properties.

Honey also helps in promoting autolytic debridement (it carries away dead tissue so that live tissue can regenerate over the skin or wound). It also speeds up the healing process by stimulating wound tissues.

Perfect for sensitive, aging or cracked/damaged skin. Because of its regenerative properties & natural texture honey softens & gently cleans your skin. Due to its gentle nature and strong ability honey is the perfect ingredient for skin care, especially for our delicate faces.

Cosmetic Ingredient Labels

Did you know that the law allows manufacturers to ask the FDA to grant “trade secret” status for any ingredient. If the FDA grants the request the substance does not have to be listed on the label.

So not only now are companies packing their cosmetics with synthetic ingredients, adding one organic substance and labeling it ‘natural’ (because they say so), now they aren’t even liable to tell us exact what is in it.

I believe there is a responsibility of businesses and craftsmen to consumers, to respect their health and integrity by disclosing ALL ingredients. Not just the ones they WANT you to know about.

For instance, the shady practice of labeling items as “Active Ingredients” and then in small print on the bottom are the “Inactive Ingredients,” where most of the chemicals are listed as stabilizers and aids to ascetic appeal like consistency and coloring. This is done with the pretense to trick the eye of the consumer. That is a sad game that some big businesses play, because by misleading their customers into thinking they are getting a natural product and hiding the caustic ingredients, they’re damaging the customer’s trust, loyalty, and overall health & wellness.
